As we came to the end of 2020, the school leadership team felt it was time to refocus our vision, mission and values. We felt that moving forward we wanted to clarify where we were heading, what we were committed to doing in order to reach that vision, and what our core values were. Spending time on a process of review would allow us a chance to come together as a staff and gain collective clarity and ownership -vital for the ever-changing nature of this time in history.
Kascha Reed, Deputy Principal
As we considered the feedback we received through our surveys in 2020 from parents, staff members and students, we saw opportunities to fine-tune the direction that the school is taking whilst still recognising our history and what we stand for. We wanted to ensure that our statements reflected the commitment we feel towards ensuring that students are equipped to engage with the world and have the skills to make a positive impact wherever they find themselves.
We decided that one of our key priorities at the start of this year was to engage with our staff in a process of reviewing our vision, missions and value statements and gather staff feedback on how they accurately reflect who we are and where we are going.
The process started with collecting all the current information in our files and on our website regarding these critical areas of our organisation. We also looked at historical documents which helped us keep in mind the journey that the school has been on. This information was presented to staff on the first day of the school year and working groups were formed with the task of doing a SWOT analysis of our previous vision, mission and value statements.
The feedback from staff was then collated and shared with the senior leadership team who spent time sorting through it and looking for common concerns or suggestions. Many discussions were held and various aspects debated until we were satisfied with our new statements. Various members of the leadership team oversaw the crafting of our new statements and accompanying descriptors and catchphrases to ensure that we paid tribute to where we have come from and where we are going. The updated versions were then referenced in February to the Board of Directors, and finally, submitted to the staff during our most recent Whole School Briefing.
The result of this process has been a set of statements that build on each other and work together to clearly communicate who we are and where we are going. We are thankful for the clarity that this process has given us, and we hope that you will join us in our vision of empowering students to shape a brighter future!
